2018 Subaru Forester Preview Jun 29, 2017 by Jet (Driver Weekly)
The 2018 Subaru Forester shows that a compact crossover SUV can be fun as well as capable. In addition to a range of smaller updates, there is a new Black Edition for the 2018 Forester you will want to consider depending on your stylistic preferences. As always, the Forester is spacious, safe, versatile, and ready to tackle rain, snow, or light trails without a problem.
Still Ready for Adventure
As always, the 2018 Forester is ready to take you nearly anywhere with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. The 8.7 inches of ground clearance help you conquer obstacles on the road, while the X-MODE and Hill Descent Control give you extra confidence when traveling off the road. The large aluminum alloy wheels in 17 and 18-inch variations also help give you the height you need to tackle anything. Like most vehicles from this automaker, the Forester is reliable and durable without breaking the bank, starting at $22,795 MSRP. 98% of Subaru Foresters sold in the past ten years are still on the road today according to numbers from HIS Markit.
The 2018 Subaru Forester is just as versatile as it has been in the past, with 31.5 cubic feet of storage behind the second row of seats or 68.5 cubic feet with the seats folded. There are a variety powertrains for a wide range of drivers. The infotainment system is also versatile; the standard SUBARU STARLINK Multimedia system makes it easy to access functions like SiriusXM Satellite Radio and Pandora along with apps and navigation. There is no sacrificing comfort for versatility with the available memory settings for the 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, letting you share your crossover without having to waste time finding the right seating position. You can also open up the cabin with some help from the available power panoramic moonroof.
New Black Edition
The biggest update to the 2018 Forester is the new Black Edition, which you can add to the 2.5i Premium trim level. Going with this package will add plenty of black stylistic elements to your crossover, including black 18-inch wheels and black exterior trim on the outside. Inside, this model gets black interior made of cloth and faux-leather along with dashboard trim in gloss black and silver. Just keep in mind that this new package is only offered on the 2.5i Premium with the automatic transmission. It also adds paddle shifters, unique silver stitching on the shift knob and steering wheel, heated front seats, and floor mats. The exterior gets other additions like adaptive LED headlights, heated windshield spray nozzles and mirrors, and hill descent control. The LED Steering Responsive Headlights are worth a longer mention as they will actively track with turns to improve your visibility.
Other than the new Forester Black Edition, you will notice a handful of changes to the 2018 model. The top Touring trim now has the EyeSight safety package standard, including lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking. All models with EyeSight also now have automatic braking for backing up and automatic high-beam control. The 2018 model offers small but steady improrvements to a safe, reliable, and durable vehicle.
