2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Review May 12, 2017 by Jet (Driver Weekly)
The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport is the perfect option for those who like the Santa Fe but don’t necessarily need seating for seven. By sticking to the expected five-passenger configuration found in most crossover vehicles, the Santa Fe Sport is able to offer a lower price tag than the full-sized Santa Fe but still gives you similar features and overall styling.
Interior Versatility and Comfort
When it comes to crossovers, most people choose this body style over a sedan for its ride height and interior versatility, particularly in the cargo area. The Santa Fe Sport certainly doesn’t disappoint with plenty of cargo room and rear seats that feel spacious compared to the competition. There are 35.4 cubic feet behind the rear seats or 71 cubes with them folded down. The available hands-free liftgate makes it a breeze to access the cargo area even with your hands full. The second-row seats both slide and recline in addition to folding, and you can enjoy leather upholstery throughout. The available ventilated and heated front seats are also a nice touch, as is the heated steering wheel.
Technology to Stay Connected
The infotainment system and other features are intuitive, making it easy to stay connected and entertained no matter where you go in the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. Android Auto makes syncing your smartphone and accessing all of its features a breeze. The navigation system goes above and beyond by giving you alternate routes as well as real-time traffic information. While the 8-inch touchscreen now looks surprisingly small given the larger screens found on more expensive vehicles, even those with larger fingers will have no problem controlling the various settings and input methods. The Blue Link system is also incredibly helpful, letting you access your vehicle via your smartphone or via a web application. Now you can check vehicle health or confirm you locked your crossover no matter where you are.
Packed with Advanced Safety
Families, couples, and singles will appreciate the peace of mind that comes from the safety features on the 2017 Santa Fe Sport. This is a 2017 IIHS Top Safety Pick, and it certainly earns that designation with available features like Automatic Emergency Braking complete with pedestrian detection. This system will give you a warning and then brake if necessary to stop a collision, applying full brake-force stopping power at speeds between 5 and 50 mph. The pedestrian detection works within a very similar speed range. Other available features like Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Change Assist, Lane Departure Warning, and rear parking sensors all help you feel better. While the standard rearview camera is a nice touch, we suggest upgrading to the Multi-View Camera System if you want increased visibility.
With a laundry list of standard features, connectivity, and safety systems, the 2017 Sante Fe offers customers a great bargain for an attractive crossover.
