2017 BMW X5 Review Jun 7, 2017 by Jet (Driver Weekly)

The 2017 BMW X5 is a powerful and efficient luxury sports utility vehicle that offers space for the entire family, depending on how you configure it. BMW is better known for its signature sports sedans, but it also offers a range of crossovers and SUVs. While it is the largest in the X-Series, the X5 maintains the company’s signature grille and sleek, molded lines. With so many points in its favor, the third-generation BMW X5 is a great choice for buyers looking for a large luxury SUV.

Tackling Any Terrain

The BMW X5 is ready to move with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six while the xDrive50i offers a 4.4-liter Turbo V8 with 445 horsepower that earns the company’s preferred “Sports Activity Vehicle” designation. It does just as well off the road as it does on it. The available Dynamic Performance Control will smoothly distribute power on the rear axle to improve accuracy and efficiency, while the available Active Roll Stabilization reduces body roll. Factor in the intelligent all-wheel drive system, xDrive, and you will get traction on nearly any surface, especially if you pair it with the standard 19-inch all-season tires.

Room for Everyone and Everything

It isn’t an exaggeration to say that the X5 can fit the whole family, as you can configure it with seating for up to seven people. The Rear Comfort seats have enhanced foam padding, and they move forward and backward 3 inches. This makes it easy to bring your kids close, maximize legroom or cargo room, or just take advantage of the 10-inch dual LCD screens and DVD drive. The third row is optional and always comes with its own settings for climate control. Those in the front will always be comfortable with the available 20-way multicontour seats featuring Nappa leather. In addition to offering room for the entire family, the 2017 X5 can fit anything you need to take, as it has one of the best cargo capacities from a BMW. The rear seats will split 40/20/40 to give you up to 76.7 cubic feet of storage space, up from the 35.8 cubes behind the second row. To let you take full advantage of this space there is a cargo net, multiple fastening points, cargo rails, and a tensioning strap.

Technology to Stay Connected and Safe

This BMW gives you access to the latest technology wherever you go, including an available Wi-Fi hotspot that lets you stay connected on the go. There is even a Wireless Charging Pocket, so your battery never runs low. Safety-related tech complements the connectivity with features like a Surround View Camera and Parking Assistant. Access these features and more on the new 10.2" iDrive touch screen.

Luxurious trimmings and a surprising amount of power and performance put the BMW X5 in the running against other full-size luxury SUVs.
