2017 Mercedes E-Class Sedan Review Nov 28, 2016 by Cedric (Driver Weekly)

For those searching for a luxurious sedan, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the perfect fit. The model was redesigned for the 2017 model year, so you can expect the latest innovations in addition to an elegant exterior defined by refined curves and cambered edges. Inside and out, this is a prestigious model that lives up to the name.

Prestigious Packaging

As always, Mercedes-Benz offers the 2017 E-Class Sedan with the choice of multiple packages that can take each model to the next level. While the car is only is offered as a four-door E300 sedan, you can opt for the Premium 1 Package, the Premium 2 Package, the Premium 3 Package, a Sport Wheel Package, a Rear Safety Package, a Warmth and Comfort Package, and a range of standalone options.

Interior Feel and Comfort

Sitting in any seat of the 2017 Mercedes E-Class sedan is nothing short of indulgent. All materials are of the highest quality, and the seats are incredibly comfortable, particularly if you opt for the multicontour seats. The MB-Tex synthetic leather upholstery feels like the real thing and is easier to clean and maintain, although it will not have the same scent or suppleness as treated leather. The front seats are power adjustable, and the driver memory function makes it easy to share your E-Class model with another driver. The multicontour seats mentioned above even have a massage function. There are even available heated front armrests. These sophisticated touches ensure that the E-Class stands out from other cars in luxurious comfort.

Advanced Safety

Out of all the models on the market, the latest E-Class has some of the most advanced safety features. There are features you will not find anywhere else, including on other Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The automaker has expanded on the suite of PRE-SAFE features that activate in the event of an unavoidable collision to mitigate any harm to the occupants. PRE-SAFE Sound has arrived on this model and emits “pink noise” (an interference signal, or loud tone) that triggers the natural defenses in your ears in advance of a collision and reduces hearing damage. It is also the first model to use Car-To-X Communication to let you know about upcoming hazards and perilous driving conditions. You can also install PRE-SAFE Impulse Side that inflates a designated area by the front outboard seat bolsters, so you are further from the door when a collision occurs. Of course, you also get an extensive list of standard safety features. Available features include front collision warning, lane change assist, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera, and a speed limit sign reader.

As a Mercedes-Benz, the technology in the E-Class Sedan also stands out from the crowd, as every single E300 comes with a 12.3-inch display. This includes the COMAND infotainment system and both voice controls and an innovative touchpad controller similar to a smartphone integrated into the steering wheel. While the controls are sophisticated, the COMAND system is not the best on the market regarding usability. Infotainment remains lacking from most automakers. However, the E-Class offers a range of other connectivity options to ameliorate those concerns. The system features standard navigation, real-time traffic updates, Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities, and HD radio. Drivers have noted that, unsurprisingly, the sound quality is best from the optional fourteen Burmester speakers.

Offering a more refined and gentler styling than the previous year with continuous improvements in safety and luxury technology, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class should be under serious consideration for any luxury buyer.
