If you can take a road trip anywhere in the world, you want to drive along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia. Along the way, you will see stunning surf, waterfalls, and wildlife. You can enjoy the water and explore various seaside villages. Here are some of the most interesting and beautiful things you should look forward to seeing on the Great Ocean Road.

Twelve Apostles

The Twelve Apostles are just one of the natural wonders you will see while driving along the Great Ocean Road. These magnificent rock stacks frame your view of the Southern Ocean. They were created 10 million to 20 million years ago from the constant erosion of these limestone cliffs. Over time, caves formed within the cliffs, and the caves then moved onto arches and finally rock pillars. The Twelve Apostles look amazing any time of the day, but it is particularly impressive at sunset or sunrise as you watch the stacks change color in the light.

Waterfalls

Even if you don’t choose to drive along the entire Great Ocean Road, you will get the chance to see plenty of gorgeous waterfalls. Spend at least a day based out of Lorne, and you will easily be able to visit ten different waterfalls, each of which is just minutes away from the town. Apollo Bay offers almost as many options. Some good options include Triplet Falls and Hopetoun Falls within the Great Otway National Park, Erskine Falls in the Otways, Hopkins Falls by Warrnambool, and Little Aire Falls off Lavers Hill-Beech Forest Road.

Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village

Visit Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village during the day to look at the museum or village that focuses on Warrnambool Lighthouse, a state heritage site. From there, you can easily visit the Shipwreck Coast, where over 180 ships have been wrecked over the centuries. Visit the site at night for a sound and laser show showing the Loch Ard disaster. You can even get a package for dinner with the show.

Cape Otway

Cape Otway is the southernmost area of the Great Ocean Road region. Here you will see some of the most stunning and remote rainforests in Australia along with the oldest lighthouses on the mainland. If you like lighthouses, then stop by the Cape Otway Lighthouse and take a tour. If you prefer catching a glimpse of wildlife, go to the Cape Otway Centre for Conservation, where you may see koalas, wallabies, cockatoos, kangaroos, wallabies, kookaburras, galahs, and more. While in the Otways along the Great Ocean Road, you can enjoy the Otway Fly Treetop Adventure. You can go on a zip line tour or just enjoy the Tree Top Walk. This walk will take you a bit under an hour. From lighthouses to ziplines you can explore Australia's natural beauty and fantastic sights on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria.
