Best Classic Car Shows and Events in America Jan 11, 2017 by Cedric (Driver Weekly)

If you are a classic car enthusiast, car shows can be the best way to examine unique models and talk with other enthusiasts, collectors, and drivers. While every state has local events, many of which are annual, there are national shows that attract the most prestigious cars. If you are planning a trip in the new year, you can always include one of these car shows on your itinerary. The best shows don’t start until April and run until September, giving you plenty of time to investigate each option.

Charlotte AutoFair

The Charlotte AutoFair gets its name from its location at the Charlotte Motor Speedway located in Concord, North Carolina. The event includes a classic car corral, thousands of merchants, and auctions, so you can even find your next classic vehicle. It lasts four days and takes place twice every year, in April and September.

Southwest Street Rod Nationals Plus

This three-day event takes place in April at the State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, and it celebrates street rods. It is one of the ten events that the National Street Rod Association hosts annually. This particular event includes over 1,700 vintage cars.

Elegance at Hershey

The Elegance at Hershey proves that Hershey, Pennsylvania, should be known for more than just chocolate. This concours takes place in the middle of July. In addition to numerous other activities at this classic car show, there is a vintage race where drivers put their precious vehicles to the test. (You will notice that many of the events contain a “concours,” a French term for a parade of vintage vehicles.)

Iola Old Car Show and Swap Meet

Interestingly enough, this Iola, Wisconsin, event combines a swap meet with a car show. The event last three days in the middle of July and includes over 2,000 show cars. The 4,000 swap spaces focus on historical automotive artifacts, making it easy for attendees to bring home smaller souvenirs than classic cars.

Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

This event takes place in Pebble Beach, California, and is the signature portion of the automotive week show. Since the term “Concours” means a parade containing vintage vehicles, the event is pretty self-explanatory. It takes place in August on the third Sunday and typically includes around 200 collector motorcycles and cars at the Pebble Beach Golf Links.

Woodward Dream Cruise

This annual classic car event takes place in Detroit, Motor City. It is also on the third Sunday of August and typically shows off over 40,000 classic cars, making it among the largest events of its type. During the event, the classic cars drive along Woodward Avenue, hence the name of the event. On average, over a million people attend. You’ll just have to choose between Pebble Beach and Woodward.

Telluride Festival of Cars and Colors

This is actually among the newest classic car shows in America, but it has already made a name for itself. It lasts four days during September and happens in Telluride, Colorado. In addition to old cars, this event celebrates the gorgeous fall foliage. Car enthusiasts will appreciate the exotic and vintage vehicles and high-end restorations on display.
